1. RESOURCES FOR YOUR WELL BEING: SUCCESS OVER STRESS

Simple techniques to:

  • let go of tension and stress
  • restore your vitality
  • stimulate your immunological system and prevent disease
  • remain calm in the face of difficult circumstances

We will achieve these aims through:

  • breathing exercises
  • visualizations
  • gentle stretches
  • the use of healing energy

These resources can be used  at practically any time, anywhere, since they are easy to do and they can also be used with your students to teach them English!!!

Friday,  31 May, 19:00 to 21:00

IMPORTANT: This workshop will most likely be offered in Spanish on Saturday,

June 8, from 10:00 to 13:00. Please phone SBS SALTA, 4831 8868 for confirmation.

2. SONGS AND RHYMES FOR YOUNG LEARNERS AND THE

YOUNG AT HEART

Engaging materials to teach children at the basic level and beyond. This workshop will present over thirty songs and rhymes to

  • motivate young learners
  • help them acquire the target language
  • assist them in developing listening comprehension and speaking skills
  • cultivate self-esteem

This will be achieved through

  • action (TPR) songs and rhymes
  • repetitive elements to make learning easy
  • open ended frames to stimulate the learners’ creativity
  • simple story based songs

Saturday,  1 June,  9:30 to 14:00

Participants will receive the lyrics of all of the songs and the text of the rhymes. Suggestions on how to make the most of them will be given throughout the workshop. While a few of these songs are well known, many other will most likely be brand new for a large number of participants since they are not meant to teach English as a foreign language as such, but can easily be used for that purpose.

Both workshops are offered by Oriel Villagarcia, M.A. University of Lancaster,

graduate studies, University of Texas. A graduate of the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman with a Magna Cum Laude distinction, he has taught at the Unversidad Católica de Salta, Universidad Nacional de Rio Cuarto and Universidad Nacional de Santiago del Estero. He is also a co-founder of ASPI and of what is FAAPI today.  Apart from his qualifications in English

Language Teaching, he has studied mind-body therapies and has obtained certifications in massage, reflexology, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Breema, is a Reiki Master, and  has recently been attuned to Master’s Level in Ra-Sheeba and Aqua Lead. He is also knowledgeable about Thai Massage and QiGong.

TOOLS FOR TEACHERS IS GRATEFUL TO THE CULTURAL BRITANICA DE SALTA FOR THE USE OF THEIR PREMISES AND TO SBS FOR SPONSORING THESE WORKSHOPS

We would like to finish this issue of SHARE with  a message about teacher development that our SHARER, Amalia Montalvo has sent us about teacher development: :

I struggle against other teachers' laziness and boredom. Just see their faces!! How many times I have told them: "There is a course here/ a workshop there"; "There are many new ideas in such magazine..." & so on, and their answers are always the same! ... We cannot be the same this year and the next ones, neither our work, because children change, the world changes, everything changes.

We, as teachers, must permanently grow and let our students grow too, we have to encourage them, give them renewed and challenging opportunities to learn. If we find or have enthusiasm, we have to teach enthusiastically; otherwise we become mere workers whose work is this and for it we receive some money, and that ends the matter. But we have to "write" something more important in our students' heart: PASSION or they will find our classes boring and meaningless, and this is exactly what happens.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
