TEACHING SONGS TO VERY YOUNG LEARNERS: TIPS AND TRICKS
Songs are of paramount
importance when teaching little ones. They are part and parcel of
every
kid's life. Songs are enjoyable, memorable and useful for teaching grammar
structures,
vocabulary
and pronunciation. If appropriately chosen, they contain words and expressions
of
high
frequency and offer repetition. In this presentation Prof. Bilopolsky
will show you
different ways in which
songs can be used to enhance second language acquisition .

SONGS IN THE
ELT CLASSROOM: A MULTIPLICITY OF USES
In this session I will
show how songs can be used to present and practice
language points, to help
student with some language difficulties so that they can avoid
common errors, and how they can
be used for intensive listening as well as to stimulate
discussion, encourage
creativity and help students achieve states of relaxation that may
optimize learning and reduce
stress. I will be focussing in particular on the
use of songs at
intermediate level and above through techniques which will contribute to
bringing variety
and fun in the classroom.

WITH A SONG IN YOUR HEART
In this
lighthearted session we will reminisce a number of hits from the 70's, 80's and
90's
while tangentially aiming
to rediscover their possible use in the EFL classroom. The audience
will be invited to take
part in the simple activity of naming the song on the basis of the lyrics
or short fragments of the
music. Participants will have a chance to find out how many of the
songs to be presented are
also used by the colleagues attending the session.
To a very large extent, this session is meant to play music fundamentally for
enjoyment and
because of the nature of the songs to be presented it will aim at reminding the audience of
the benefits of chanting, i.e. singing together as a way of creating those
bonds that bind us,
or even dancing to bring this inevitable surge of energy that revitalizes us
and helps us on
our journey.
