Humanising the English Language Classroom

For a number of years now there has been renewed interest in the affective domain and the emotional factors which influence language learning. Today there is no doubt that the language learning experience is much more effective when both affect and cognition are considered. In this talk we will be drawing on some theoretical knowledge about improving language teaching and learning through a greater awareness of the role affect plays and its beneficial effects on classroom management. The central idea in this talk is to view some important issues in language learning such as: memory, anxiety, self-esteem, facilitation, autonomy, classroom activities and assessment from the perspective of affect.Examples will be taken from Inside Out.
