A Word from the Editor

To the loving memory of Fernando Armesto (1968 – 2018)

I never thought I was going to have to write something like this. Rather, I thought the opposite was going to be the case and that I was never going to be able to read what he would have written for me. Yet, we all know that life has its moments of happiness  which multiplied in his company, as much as it has its shattering moments when you are torn apart by indescribable pain. Now, knowing is far from accepting and this is exactly what might now be happening to many of his innumerable friends,  colleagues and students: we find it impossible to accept that our dear Fernando Armesto has passed away. Death, especially that of a young, congenial and energetic man in love with life and with people, is always an unacceptable tragedy.  Fernando was much more than one of my closest friends, he was like a brother to me, and he will be sorely missed by his loving wife, our dear Ceci and his family and by all of us, his friends who have suddenly and painfully been made poorer by his absence that we grieve today.

“I´ll put flowers at your feet

and I will sing to you so sweet

and hope my words will carry

home to your heart”

(Joan Baez, “To Bobby”)
